Should We Worry About Skincare?

By Aby Amarn

If you're anything like the vast majority of people, you have a nightly skincare regime that involves a wipe round with a wet flannel before collapsing into bed at the end of a busy day... and not much else. Its easy to assume that those with wonderful tone and texture to their skin are just lucky and so we don't give much thought and attention to our own routine.

In reality, there is a great deal we can do to improve our skin tone, reduce blemishes and minimise wrinkles. The key is to start developing a skincare routine early and use it consistently for the best results.

It is true that sometimes there are skin conditions which are genetic and these are things we can't do much about. However, there are also many problems like breakouts and wrinkles which can be avoided with a good skincare routine and with making sure the routine is appropriate for our face and most importantly our skin.

Some people go completely over the top and are unduly rough and abrasive on their skin when they cleanse, using soaps and creams which strip the skin of its natural oils and moisturisers. They do this usually because of a breakout and feel that cleaning and scrubbing harder or more often with harsher products is the answer. Actually, they could be just damaging the skin or causing the problems in the first place by cleansing too much! A good skincare routine means using products designed for the face and means using them properly.

Moisturising on a daily basis is also important for healthy skin. There are places on the face such as around the eyes and mouth which don't have oil glands on or near them and so even with a naturally oily skin it is important not to forget this part of your routine. If you're body senses that parts of your skin are too dry it can signal the oil glands to produce even more oil which can clog pores making the problems much worse.

Wrinkles, breakouts, blemishes and other skin problems are just the way it is. Even with a great skincare routine, we'll probably all have to face them at some time.

Just like exercise and healthy eating are the ways to deal with obesity and gaining weight, so a healthy skincare routine is the best tool to prevent serious problems of the skin and to develop healthy and radiant skin.
